Can you backtest some of the MS plug-in like PowerPivot plus using Tradesim to get some results?

Backtesting MS password-protected formulae is not a problem - their output is identical to standard non-protected ones.
However, take a step or two beyond backtesting, to the point where you need to understand and trust the trading strategy. It's not easy to do this with password-protected formulae, as for all we know, the author may be using hindsight indicators such as ZigZag to get (unobtainable in real life) excellent backtesting results.

You took the words out of my mouth, Jose--building our own trading systems is a lot more work, but we know where we are when we are done.
I might mention that you might have to use the output of the password protected trading systems to generate a text file of all the entries and exits rather than relying on the TradeSim interfaces to MetaStock to do it for you--you'll have to figure that our once you get into the testing.
